My new patio cracked after one month. I hired Patriarch Construction to replace my patio in August, 2025. Leo the owner came out quickly after I contacted him and provided me with his recommendations in a very thorough and businessmanlike manner. I was impressed with his professionalism. He provided me with a quote that was higher than other quotes that I had received but I decided to go with him as he seemed very engaged, had good reviews and I thought gave me my best chance of a successful outcome. I made a couple changes to the plans before he started the job and we agreed on a higher price to reflect the changes. When he had to delay the start date due to weather, Leo communicated that to me on a timely basis. The job was done over a 2 week period in mid-August. The job went well but the stamped concrete border was not the color I had specified and Leo came back twice to attempt to correct it by adding color. He did it very quickly and after the second attempt, told me it was the best he could do. As I had otherwise been happy with his work, I accepted that and didn’t pursue it any further. However, I had asked for the border to be charcoal colored and it is a light grey with black splotches in the crevasses where all the color went. It is disappointing and just looks like it is dirty. A month after the job was completed, a crack appeared which ran the full length of the patio which is 37 feet long. This was in September so there had been absolutely no frost. I took pictures of the crack and emailed them to Leo and asked him to call me to discuss. I wanted to know why it had happened, what could be done about it and what he was prepared to do about it. I received no response. A week later I texted Leo to ensure he received the email. He did not reply. I am now in a position where I spent top dollar on a new patio, it has already started cracking and I have to find and pay somebody else to attempt to repair it. I have also consulted with a lawyer. Patriarch’s quote states that they don’t guarantee against cracks and frost heaving due to Calgary’s weather but the weather has nothing to do with the crack. I have been advised that it is due to inadequate compaction below the concrete. My lawyer has advised me that a contractor must perform its work in a good and workmanlike manner irregardless of the wording of the contract. Patriarch has ignored my requests to discuss the problem. My review has now prompted Patriarch to contact me to attempt to remedy the situation. However it is winter and nothing can be done until spring. Therefore I am changing the review from 2 to 3 stars until the work is done. Apparently cracks like this are common and it cannot be repaired. However they will attempt to correct the color of the border and also reseal the patio which will prevent moisture from going into the crack which will hopefully keep the crack from getting larger.
The boys at Patriarch completely transformed our yard. Excellent quality of work from demo to finishing. The team followed through on their commitment and arrived exactly when promised. Communication was also outstanding - a serious relief compared to the majority of contractors. It was a pleasure to deal with Leo and his crew. Would 100% recommend for any and all concrete work. Can’t wait to work with you again!
From start to finish, Leo and his crew were AMAZING! We needed to replace an old, cracked cement patio in our backyard and Leo took the time to explain the various options and gave great advice so we could make the best decision. He even came back a second time when we had more questions, but never made us feel like we were a bother. Leo was an absolute pleasure to deal with – super responsive, kept us up to date on where things were at, and went above and beyond in giving us exceptional customer service. Even when we asked about a pattern he'd never done, he made it happen. Loved, too, that Leo was on site working right there alongside his guys. We couldn’t be happier with our beautiful new stamped concrete patio and the entire process. 100% recommend!!
